Geelong is a great spot to take the family. Spend a morning taking a spin on the hand-carved wooden carousel built in 1892 and enjoy the famous display of colourful statues carved from old wooden bollards along the Geelong waterfront. Click here to see them brought to life!

The waterfront precinct has undergone a magnificent revival and now features plenty of great restaurants, accommodation and walkways to capture the most beautiful part of the city.

You can also explore the Eastern Beach precinct where you will find the Geelong Botanic Gardens which were established in 1851.

Visit the National Wool Museum and explore, through interactive displays, the journey of wool - from the sheep’s back to the clothes rack.

Bargain-hunters and antique-lovers will find plenty to lighten the wallet on Moorabool Street, and fashionistas can check out the boutiques on Ryrie and Pakington streets in the western suburb of Newtown.

To reach Geelong using V/Line services, visitors can take the train from Melbourne, with multiple daily services running between the two cities. The journey takes approximately 1 hour, depending on the service. Additionally, coach services are available from other regional towns in Victoria.

Geelong Station is an easy 500 metre walk from the town centre.

Try this weekend itinerary:

Saturday
Trained guides will take you on a tailored walking tour around the vibrant Geelong city centre. You will venture through the arts precinct, see significant buildings including the National Wool Museum, Deakin University and the new state of the art Library. After the tour, enjoy morning or afternoon tea at a prominent waterfront restaurant. Cost is $15 per person and takes approximately 1.5 hours. Please call 03 5244 7106 to arrange a booking.

Alternatively, take a stroll along the Geelong Waterfront, soak up the ambience of Eastern Beach and the famous bollards along the walkway. Take a dip in the art deco pool at Eastern Beach.
Spend an hour or two at the National Wool Museum, and let the kids run wild with the interactive displays and bales of wool.

Sunday
Take a spin on the historic Carousel, feed the seagulls and grab a coffee at one of the waterfront cafes. Walk to the Geelong Botanic Gardens, and check out the modern display of succulents and cacti.
Wander down Little Malop Street with its bold laneway street art and loads of tasty options in venues that spill out onto the street. Towards Johnstone Park, the cultural precinct lines the street including the Geelong Gallery and Geelong Library and Heritage Centre. If you plan ahead, you might catch a show at the Geelong Arts Centre.
